If all goes well...

Following the games industry, I know one thing above all else - immersion is key. The best way to create something that is capable of capturing the attention of the viewer\player\reader, is to be able to stimulate all of the senses.

I still find myself thinking about this in every day situations, which I think helped me be as successful as I am.

Today, though, I find that the same idea applies incredibly well to online applications. We have a variety of amazing, free tools available to us - sh… Continue

This week's discussion: How would you design a race of treefolk? They don't have to be treants, they could be small, nimble fast little buggers who are as humanoid as... well, a human. How would you design their culture? How would they interact wit…

This week's discussion: What is the best way you feel, mechanically, to build characters? Do you think point buy systems work best or do dice-rolling systems hold the top bunk? Or what about special systems that are usually game specific: for insta…

Anyone remember the Blue Planet RPG? It is pretty rare, evidently - I'd love to take a peek at it.

Who doesn't like a game about change - especially if you play a newly awoken robot who can redesign itself... with kung-fu sprinkled in?

New thought exercise up in the Ludology - Game Design group: How would you make a "Players design their spells" magic system?
October 26, 2009
Alright everyone, here's a thought exercise for you. How would you design a magic system where players can create the spells they want to cast themselves? Would it be something they can do on the fly, or would they need to prepare the spells in ad…

It's unclear RAW. Personally, I'd calculate it from the final skill rating for sake of speed and clarity. YMMV though.

Any time, mate. Just bear in mind that I'm not a total system wonk when it comes to BRP, but I'll do whatever I can to answer your questions.

Thanks for the birthday wishes Zakharov. If you ever track down Blue Planet, let me know how it is. Many RPT readers recommended it when I was questing for a sci-fi system.

Blue Planet is an amazing setting, worth the read alone. You could bolt any generic system on to it. I don't remember much about the one it came with. The books aren't rare at all. I see them used all the time for good, cheap prices and Fantasy Flight had a big sale a couple years back. Noble Knight still has them, but I bet you can find better prices elsewhere:

Definitely worth picking up if you are interested in really cool science fiction settings. It's "hard science" but doesn't geek out on the science so it's approachable to anyone.

http://catalog.chaosium.com/product_info.php?products_id=3700 should be the link to the download. There is a login required, but it's otherwise free.

I'd love the Wave Invite. My email is johnbell17 at gmail.com. Thanks!

I got the Voice invite! I just haven't had time to set it up. I work at a Costume Shop and needless to say, this is the busy/chaos week. I'll comment on it later :) Thanks again though!
