Role Play Media Network

a community for rpg bloggers, podcasters, vidcasters, and their audiences

The Grand OGL Wiki is a repository of Open Game Content that was published under the Open Game License. The site was created on June 18th, 2008 because Matthew Sprange (of Mongoose Publishing) offered to provide a volunteer with access to much of the d20 content so that the open game material could be preserved online if the books went out of print or digital distribution.

From that gesture of openness, many other companies followed suit and now the website houses material from Adamant Entertainment, Alderac Entertainment Group, Atlas Games, Behemoth3, Creative Mountain Games, Cryptosnark Games, Dragonwing Games, Dreamscarred Press, Fifth Element Games, Gallantry Productions, Goblinoid Games, Lion's Den Press, LPJ Design, Mongoose Publishing, Paizo Publishing, Primal Urge Games, Reality Deviants, Sean K. Reynolds Games, and Sword's Edge Publishing.

All content on the wiki is donated or approved by the publishers. Nothing is added to the wiki without the consent of the publisher.

FAQ

1. Why do you need permission the OGL doesn't require it?
Ultimately I think it is because I'm too Canadian. Politeness is important to me, as is working in a way that does not harm publishers. If my site was adversely affecting the participants I would not want it to exist. The games we play can be wonderful from a vibrant community but professional designers are essential to help our games make big leaps forward.

2. Why is "XXXXXX" not on your list?
It could be that I haven't asked that publisher or they do not wish to participate. If there is something you are looking for I can try to contact them and see about it getting done.

3. How come book "XXXXXX" is only partially done?
The number of people who work on the Grand OGL Wiki varies greatly. At times there have been six or seven volunteers, currently there is me. So its slowed down a bit as I juggle my day job, home life, the site and the DM Sketchpad. Currently I'm working on the Quintessential Rogue by Michael Mearls.

4. What can I do to help?
If you have time to extract content from PDFs of approved material that would certainly speed up the growth of the site. If you like to design content all your own, I always have room on the DM Sketchpad for more entries.

If you have any questions about the site feel free to comment or send me an email at [email protected].

Thanks. I'm very happy with the site and am glad that I could spearhead it. Please bookmark us, provide us with feedback and request things for the GOW and the DM Sketchpad.
