Your Traveller Experience 3 Replies

I don't want this to be a love/hate thread on various Traveller systems, but I thought it might be useful to get an idea of which Traveller iterations people on here have played the most. That way, w…

Where In The Imperium?..... 3 Replies

So, where exactly in the Third Imperium do you set your Traveller game? The Spinward Marches? Verge? Riftspan Reaches? Or perhaps your games is totally outside of the Traveller Universe, or in an ear…

Jake, you're instincts are correct in this case. One of the few criticisms that can be made for the Traveller universe (...whatever system you happen to use) is the sheer size and scale of it. It's very easy for GM's and players to be overwhelmed with information before the first adventure of the first campaign gets off the ground...so to speak.

The show Firefly provides some really good ideas on how to present and run a basic Traveller adventure: the characters are each simple in structure, but complex in back story (thus, making them interesting for players) while the objectives of each episode is fairly straightforward and can be boiled down to one sentence (e.g. "Do the job and get paid", "Take cattle from planet A to planet B and get paid", "Get the part to fix the ship" etc). The rest is just detail and can be added whenever you (...and your players) feel more comfortable with the universe as a whole.

Hope this helps...

That's one thing great about Traveller--their fans have created reams and reams of material, and most of it is easily available online.

Doc i will believe you me. I'm tempted to stay real basic. maybe thru 8? Its gonna be neat being a noob seeing as how many people are huge traveller fans. Its like having a huge resource base from the last 30 years.

Oh, how I love that map. This one isn't too shabby, though a bit rougher.

One of the better online resources for the game is The Traveller Map.

I used to play the old Traveller back in the early 80s. Loved it. Haven't picked up the latest edition yet, but will eventually. I loved the character generation system. It gave your character a real history. And the setting was awesome.
